On March 31th this year, grade 10 students will be participating in the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test). As you may already be aware, this is a provincially-mandated, standardized test that all students must successfully complete to graduate from high school.

Last year, grade 9 students completed The Practice Literacy Test. Eden administration and trained teaching staff evaluated student answers based on the requirements established by EQAO (Education Quality Assessment Office). The scores students earned is an indication of how they will perform on this year’s literacy test. For those students who may be experiencing difficulties with literacy (spelling and grammar, reading and/or writing tasks), Eden High School has developed an After Hours Literacy Program to effectively prepare students for this important provincial assessment.

We strongly recommend that students who achieved less than 75%(the provincial requirement) on the practice test join Literacy Club. This Club will help to prepare students for the OSSLT but will also assist in the development of literacy skills required of secondary school study.
Literacy Club will be meeting each Tuesday, after school from 3:00-4:30, in room 220. Snacks are always provided and anyone is welcome to attend.
Further to that, ALL grade 10 students will be participating in a 4-week Literacy Blitz. The Literacy Team will be going to classes to prepare students for writing the OSSLT. Each week, students will be given a different package to work through and take home. These packages should be kept and reviewed before the test as they contain tips and tools for writing the OSSLT.
You can find more information on the OSSLT, as well as previous tests, on www.eqao.com
